Jim was involved in wildfire operations as a firefighter from 1981 to 1990; the last
six years of which were in Alberta’s rappel program. Jim worked in forestry
part-time in Alberta and in Sweden during the winter months when not in university.
In 1990, Jim received an Avionics Engineering Technology Diploma from SAIT and
worked on a variety of avionics and radio systems projects culminating in 3 yeas as
a system engineer for landmine detection. Jim worked with our armed forces in
Afghanistan providing training and technical support for which he received a General
