Alberta Agriculture and Forestry has sponsored a collaborative research initiative with FPInnovations Wildfire Operations Group and the Canadian Partnership for Wildland Fire Science to synthesize knowledge, develop operational tools, and identify best management practices that will contribute to a FireSmart vegetation management decision support system.
The following research projects conducted by FPInnovations will contribute to this research initiative:
- Development of the Canadian Wildfire Fuel Management Knowledge Base System
- Wildfire/fuel treatment encounter data collection through a mobile app
- Research to assess stand conversion
- Monitoring Larix seedling survival and growth
- Comparing the seasonal changes in live fuel flammability of Larix spp. and Black Spruce
- Virtual tour of the Pelican Mountain FireSmart Fuel Management Research Site
- Summary of stand level fuel treatment productivity studies
- Stand level fuel management planning tool
