Abstract
Continuing the work started by Schroeder in 2003, we conducted an operational trial of Envirovision’s ForestWatch automated wildfire smoke detection system. Our first objective was to test whether the system, which normally uses microwave communications to transfer data, could be successfully reconfigured to use satellite communications. Our second objective was to test the feasibility of using existing communication towers as camera platforms.
