Abstract

In response to concerns of the Alberta wildland firefighters about discomfort caused by protective headwear, primarily due to heat and poor fit, FERIC (now FPInnovations) initiated a study conducted by the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta. The study evaluated the effects of selected safety headwear products, worn by Alberta Sustainable Resource Development’s firefighters, on thermal responses during sustained exercise.
