Abstract<\/span><\/div>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The use of underburning as a fuel treatment for community protection is a method that has seldom being attempted in black spruce stands. This is primarily due to the moss layer that typically covers the ground and which generally has high moisture contents. Many communities in northern Canada are surrounded by black spruce forests and these communities are looking for cost-effective means of treating these forests to reduce the risk of wildfire entering the community in areas where stand replacing fires are the norm.[\/vc_column_text]
