Abstract

Although water enhancing gel has been around for decades there is little documented evidence regarding its capabilities as a fire control agent. This lack of information has limited the acceptance of gel products in Canada. In collaboration with the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center (CIFFC), Alberta Sustainable Resource Development and the British Columbia Ministry of Forests, FPInnovations has designed this project to answer the many questions surrounding the effectiveness of gel as a fire-control agent. Using helicopter drops, researchers will attempt to collect data from three fire scenarios: experimental fire, existing wildfire, and burning debris piles.
