5th Wildfire Detection Workshop Organizing Committee
The 5th Wildfire detection workshop in 2023 identified several opportunities in national wildfire detection collaborations as following:
1. Building a national public reporting mobile app
2. A testing site for new technology
3. A platform or mechanism to provide feedback to vendors and innovators
4. Performance standards on detection technology
5. A broker for sharing information among wildland fire agencies
6. Inclusion of detection in the broader context of sharing resources amongst agencies
A detection technology information platform provides an answer for opportunity 3, 4, and 5.
An on-line platform will house the latest performance metrics, new innovations, vendor list, and reports on wildfire detection. The platform will act as an information hub of detection technologies for vendors, innovators, and wildfire agencies. This platform will help wildfire agencies to validate any detection technology on a scale of performance metrics for comparison and identify suitable products. Also, the platform will promote innovations by identifying current technology gaps and needs of wildfire operations. Vendors and innovators will be able to validate and improve their own technologies based on the information available on the platform before approaching wildfire agencies. The knowledge and experience can also be accumulated in a centralized location for sharing without been lost due to staff change.
Furthermore, this platform has potential to extend to other wildfire operation components on equipment and technology services by using the similar concept and format from this project.
